Question 1

How much does one Cell hold, and which pack should I buy?

5 BIP39 words per Cell. Each pentagon bead carries one word, first 4 letters on 4 flat faces, sequence notch on the 5th. Five beads on a Ti Grade 2 post inside the AAA shell.

For a 12-word phrase, the 3-Cell pack ($149) covers it. For a 24-word phrase, the 5-Cell pack ($219) covers it.

There is no single Cell that holds a 24-word phrase. Distribution is the design.

Question 2

Should I buy the Cell, the Screw, the Hinge, or the Set?

Accepted Answer

Pick by where the object will live and how you want to split your phrase.

Cell ($149 / $219): the portable form factor. Goes in a battery drawer alongside your real Duracells. Best if you want to move it, mix it with consumer batteries, or keep a travel copy.

Screw ($199 / $299): the structural form factor. Installs in furniture you already own. Best if you have shelves, brackets, or fixtures using M10 fasteners.

Hinge ($99 / $179): the single-object 12-word path. Cheapest entry point. Best if you have a 12-word phrase, or want the cheapest 24-word setup (2 Hinges = $179, split 12 and 12).

Most 24-word buyers pick either the 5-Cell pack (one form factor, five rooms) or the Set (four form factors, four rooms).

Question 3

Where should I put the Cell, and where should I avoid?

Put it in: a battery drawer with 6 to 12 real Duracells of the same series (Coppertop, Industrial, etc.). The included Cell Skins wrap the shell so it matches your existing batteries visually. The Cell sits as the third or fourth battery in a stack, never alone.

A flashlight or remote with a 2- or 3-battery compartment is also fine, mid-stack, with real AAAs around it.

Avoid: a single-AAA device where the Cell would be the only battery. Avoid pristine "gear boxes" and curated drawers that look organized, they draw attention. A messy junk drawer with miscellaneous hardware mixed in is far better than a labelled compartment.

Question 4

What are Cell Skins, and do I need to use them?

Branded battery-label wraps that ship with every Cell pack. Apply them over the Cell shell with the included adhesive. The Cell gains the visual branding of a real consumer battery, the wrap matches what is already in your drawer.

Without a skin, the SS 304 shell looks slightly more polished than a real battery. With a skin, the only person who knows which is which is you.

Question 5

What if I mis-strike a bead while engraving?

You will not ruin the Cell. The bead is the consumable.

Every pack ships with practice beads, one per Cell, included for rehearsal. The carbide pen is forgiving on Ti Grade 2: mis-strikes appear immediately as you scribe, and you re-do the bead before threading. If you damage a real bead afterward, replacement blank beads are $19 per 5-pack.

The Cell body is reusable. Swap in fresh beads, the SS 304 shell and Ti Grade 2 post are unchanged. You can re-encode as many times as you need.
